Marco Roosink is a prolific chamber music performer with a considerable repertoire, consisting of the complete traditional literature for piano trio, piano quartet and piano quintet plus a substantial portion of the traditional repertoire for string trio, string quartet and string quintet.
He is also a keen advocate of contemporary chamber music.
Born in the Netherlands in 1969 in the old historic town of Kampen, he discovered at an early age his passion for classical music and playing the violin. As a youngster he studied in the 1980ties with the Dutch violinist and pedagogue Else Krieg. He has won several major chamber music competitions and continued his formal studies till 1994 with members of two internationally acclaimed string quartets: The Orlando Quartet and Borodin Quartet.
From 1992 till 1999 he extensively performed a wide range of chamber music repertoire at concerts in The Netherlands and toured England, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland and The Middle East. From 1999 he spent some years working and living in Asia, moving to Amsterdam in 2001, from which time on he started laying the foundations, together with the pianist Geoffrey Madge, for a new kind of ensemble that resulted in the creation of Camerata Busoni in 2006.
Besides performing chamber music he nourishes an interest in literature, the Asian cuisine and contemporary philosophy; Richard Rorty and Gilbert Ryle in particular. Marco Roosink lives in Amsterdam with his wife Jola and their cat Smoesjes.
